Hi All,

New to here but wanted to ask if anyone had experience of this or any advice I can use when speaking to a garage about this.

Having had no previous issues with car, suddenly last night the cruise control suddenly went in to 'pause' and then a short time later on journey multiple warning lights came on all in quick succession. (see photos).

Not sure if it may be just a particular sensor that has gone or what. The clutch warning was the most persistent and kept going off but not sure if that was just because that was the last warning to come up or if it is actually related to the clutch. No smell of burning etc from clutch and was driving on flat roads.

Anyway, just thought I'd see if anyone knew of anything similar happening and if anyone had any advice.

Thank you
:-)

Hi, don't panic!

Yes, this is what can happen when you have a faulty wheel speed sensor. This affects all of the above systems and happened to me recently. Along with the above, you'll probably have the engine fan on high speed all the time too.

You just need to get it into Citroen for a diagnostic and tell them you suspect a faulty wheel speed sensor. They'll likely confirm and replace it and end of problem.

Whilst you have this fault, you'll have ne ESP function, no hill start assist, anti-rollback, no cruise control, etc. etc.

Thank you Juan.

That's really helpful. I did wonder if it was a sensor with so many alerts coming on at once.

Will be calling garages today to see where I can get in.

I've never heard of a clutch high temerature alarm. I'm assuming it is a manual car. Ifit is auto I don't see how you can minimise use of clutch. It also seems odd if an ABS sensor gives rise to clutch alarms.

Yes, manual vehicles only.

Because a wheel speed sensor is faulty, there’s a difference between the engine speed and the road wheel speed, so it calculates that the engine speed is higher and therefore thinks the clutch is slipping causing overheating . Then, as a result of that puts the engine fan on to cool the engine!

Hi Juan and Routemaster1,

It is a manual yes.
Never known a clutch high temp alert but then there is so many sensors now and they just keep adding more so guess that's just another one to add to list.

That makes sense with the engine speed and wheel speed and the fan was definitely running at high speed when I pulled up yesterday after the alerts came up.

Thank you.

Yes, there's no separate 'clutch overheating sensor', just that the Engine ECU has determined this to be the case, as a result of the other issues.

Normally if the clutch was being over-worked or the clutch being constantly ridden, then this would also lead to the same warning - from which Citroen's official guidance is to tell the customer to ease off on and limit the use of the clutch!

But in this case a dead giveaway with the other issues, having experienced it myself. The rear sensor is from £52 to £89 depending on other factors like whether visio park, rear camera, front / rear sensors/ emergency collision braking, etc., is fitted, and the front about £80 inc. VAT., but then there's the labour and VAT on the labour, so probably looking at about £150-£200 to do.

Thank you Juan.

Garages very busy so can't get in till next week. Going to limit using car as much as I can till then.

Thank you for all the help, I rather go in the the garage with some knowledge and idea of what's going on.

Cheers

Yes, it will be a quickish solution - just tell them you suspect the wheel speed sensor and are aware this can cause all the warnings that are presenting.
