You have a petrol - Why are you posting in the 1.5 BlueHDi engine timing chain information thread? It's totally off-topic, I suggest you start a separate thread rather than polluting this one. ;)

I would like to give you an important piece of information. Three months ago, I replaced the brand new 7MM chain and related accessories at a local authorized auto repair shop. After three months, the buckle that fixed the chain broke, causing the engine to be damaged. They said they would provide a one-year warranty at first, but now they say they can bear 50% of the cost. I disagree and have negotiated with them. Should they bear all the costs? In addition, how much does it cost to replace the engine in your area? Citroen C4, 1.5 engine. Finally, I suggest that you give up the idea of replacing the 7MM chain. My practice has proved that it has failed. It is the best choice to decisively sell it before it breaks down and stop the loss. Stay away from French Citroen cars.

Which vehicle is this exactly? There is no plain 'C4' with 1.5 HDi engine.... C4 Cactus, C4 Picasso II????
Did a Citroen Dealership carry out the replacement? If so, parts will be under warranty for 12 months - labour is another matter and you would have to negotiate that.

But as for a replacement engine, I can't advise on that without knowing the correct vehicle or at least the last 8 of the VIN.

Hello. This is a five-seater C4 Space Tourer, built in 2020. I had a new chain and accessories replaced at the repair shop three months ago. It has a one-year warranty. At first they said it was not the chain that caused the damage, because the chain was not broken, but I pointed out that the clip that clamped the chain broke and caused the engine damage, so they had nothing to say. Then they said they would bear 50% of the cost, but I disagreed and am still negotiating.

Without knowing your exact vehicle, I can't give you an accurate price, but for a C4 Space Tourer, and engine marking YH01, the cost of a new engine is a £9k and an exchange engine about £5.7k

So I do wish you luck in your negotiations.

I think that this highlights a potential risk here in taking pre-emptive action before there is an actual problem - in that there is a risk that something could go wrong with the replacement.

Sorry to hear about the engine damage. Do you mind if I ask if the chain itself remained intact? When you mention “clip0 are you referring to the chain tensioner?

Hi
I have a C3 Aircross that my local garage tells me is fitted with a 7mm and he predicted that at over 50,000 miles this may be an issue on my vehicle.
How do I send you the Vin number please for you to check this kindly for me?
