Much appreciated!

Do you recommend upgrading to 8mm even if no noise is appearing yet?

Do you have any experience what this upgrade costs? I have checked and there is no recall open for the VIN

Thanks!

Hi Juan,

Could you kindly check if this VIN is also the 7mm chain. I’m looking at exchanging my car

Hi Mate,

As far as I know there are no recalls for this issue across all Peugeot cars. There is a TSB recommending to change it should be determined by Peugeot Techs if there is excessive chain noise etc. you will have to have full service history and pay for diagnostics too…be prepared for a battle.

For upgrading to a 8mm yourself you’re looking at changing the 2 camshafts, tensioner and camshaft head, that’s around £700-800 GBP. I checked last week and UK Peugeot garages had not ETA as the part was on back order

Hey Mate,

thanks for that. I haven't bought the car yet. From what I understand, this issue happens, but all in all not that often, am I right?

Would you advise NOT to buy any car with that engine at all?

Thanks!

It’s hard to know how often these breakdown occur. As often the case the horror stories are the only ones we see online. I’ve seen a few cars that are 80k miles+ that are still going good. The current thinking is frequent oil changes (with the new 5w-30 oil Peugeot have released this year) and don’t thrash the car around, will make your chain last the longest. Many people are yet to know about the oil spec change. I’ve seen 3 on the market this week all serviced with the old 0w-30 or 0w-20 oil

As for avoiding the car I can only speak for myself, and I I’m still looking for another with the same engine and get extended warranty for peace of mind

I have found videos with two situations, when the chain is almost broken:

and normal sound, when the chain is in good condition::

Previously I posted that I have strange sound on cold start, but it's not like on first two videos.
