Three months ago, I replaced the brand new 7MM chain and related accessories at a local authorized auto repair shop. After three months, the buckle that fixed the chain broke, causing the engine to be damaged. They said they would provide a one-year warranty at first, but now they say they can bear 50% of the cost. I disagree and have negotiated with them. Should they bear all the costs? In addition, how much does it cost to replace the engine in your area? Citroen C4, 1.5 engine. Finally, I suggest that you give up the idea of replacing the 7MM chain. My practice has proved that it has failed. It is the best choice to decisively sell it before it breaks down and stop the loss. Stay away from French Citroen cars.
My chain just broke. I was on highway, I heard cracking noise and burning smell.
Tomorrow I will go to official garage to check what is the damage.

Hi,
I've got Ford Focus Mk4 with 1.5 Ecoblue engine with 7mm chain (same as 1.5 BlueHDi) and this is the noise on cold start in the video below.

Should I be worried? I do hear clanking noise when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear that goes away when car reaches operating temperature.

Thanks for any advice.

I'll change the tune of this thread for a quick moment. Sure Juan is fed up of being constantly asked if their car is affected even after the post he put up explaining things.

So tomorrow I will be swapping my 69 plate C5 aircross and moving on to a Megane e-tech. It has been a tough decision to make and one that has taken a lot of time to come to. The c5 aircross has been a fantastic car for me and my family with only one major issue in the 3 and a half years I've had it (bad alternator) but the thought of the chain snapping and potentially having to pay for a new engine was the deciding factor.

If anyone does happen to come across a 69 plate C5 aircross flair plus in hurricane grey with red inserts online (most likely at Arnold Clark) then it still has the original 7mm chain

Hi

Bought a 2019 C3 Aircross recently and noticed stop start wasn’t working so looked via this Forum and found this thread.

I haven’t noticed anything whilst driving but had the bonnet up today and could hear a ticking sound over and above the normal engine noise around the timing belt location.

Not sure if my car has the 7mm issue or not and don’t want to bother Juan but will speak to Citroen tomorrow to see if I need to be worried.

It is going to be due a replacement belt in the next service in 6 months but interested in people’s views on whether Citroen are likely to offer goodwill / reimburse should my car fall under the affected group? Always worth arguing the case I know but good to know how strong to push this. Thanks
