Hi,
When filling tank fuel pump at petrol station clicks off when tank is full. Feels quite normal.
On starting car after filling tank gauge is only just above 3/4 full.
This has happened 3 times now.
Any thoughts?
It's 24 C3 Aircross 1.2 petrol You.

When the pump clicks off I find that I can still squeeze another £2-3 worth in and the gauge has never yet gone to full
I find that the speed at which fuel is run into the tank plays a part in when the pump clicks off. First click, pump again to second click. Gauge then usually above the full. However if the pump bay isn't flat that plays a big part in how much will go in, especially if the passenger side is higher than the drivers.

Never go past the third click. There must be some air left in the fuel tank for ventilation and over-filling can cause gauge issues and worse. Not worth the risk for trying to get a few quid's worth of extra fuel in...

Can also cause issued with a 'pollution control canister' (can't offhand remember the proper name). This is a canister full of charcoal which is designed to control vapour from the fuel system escaping into the atmosphere. Overfilling the tank can result in liquid fuel entering the canister and damaging the charcoal bed. May be an expensive fix.Juan Sheet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:12 am Never go past the third click.
