As does air conditioning.
PureTech 180 - Real fuel consumption vs board computer
I guess since you guys don't get it, it might be rocket science after all.
Air conditioning is on all year (summer and winter).
The panoramic roof is closed all year (summer and winter).
How ever, the fabric cover was not closed (this essentially nullifies the effect of the panoramic window and also the panoramic glass is already tainted).
Still, closing the fabric cover reduces the fuel consumption by about 0,5-1,0L during the summer.
That is huge effect and definitely not expected or known for many people.

It has to be that the climate control is working less with the blind closed - which is logical if you think about it - nothing more sinister than that and of course makes perfect sense if there's less work for the system to do to maintain the temperature with reduced heat from the sunlight coming in.

Air conditioning may be on all summer and winter, but on cold days it will make the car use less fuel than when it is working hard on a hot day. it also depends on what you set it to. My wife likes to set it to about 17 degrees so it blasts air so old it freezes my hand on the steering wheel, whereas I try to stet it to 20-21 degrees to minimise the fuel use and to maintain a cool cabin. On my C3 (1.2 petrol) I get an indicated 50-52mpg with no aircon and I struggle to get 45mpg with it on.
Yes exactly, just very unexpected that is has such a huge effect.Juan Sheet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 2:10 pm It has to be that the climate control is working less with the blind closed - which is logical if you think about it - nothing more sinister than that and of course makes perfect sense if there's less work for the system to do to maintain the temperature with reduced heat from the sunlight coming in.

Another thing to watch out for is that your car can lose up to 15% of its A/C refrigerant each year, so good practice to get it serviced and topped up every few years. As the gas it lost, the A/C compressor has to work harder to maintain temperatures and that of course means less fuel economy.
