I'm considering buying a Citroen C3 Aircross and I have found a few candidates. One was manufactured in December 2018, and the other in October 2020, and both have 1.5 BlueHDi engines in them. I've read on forums and elsewhere that around that time, those engines were installed with a problematic 7mm camshaft timing chain, which was fixed later with an 8mm timing chain. My questions are:
1) How can I check whether my car has 7mm or 8mm timing chain?
2) If a car has a 7mm timing chain, can it be replaced with an 8 mm chain at the service point? Would that be much more expensive than replacing it with another 7mm chain?
3) Are there any extended warranties or goodwill replacements given for engines with 7mm engines, and how can I check that?

Thanks in advance!

This post explains the differences between the chains. The covers are different. They have different numbers, but I can't see them when the cover is installed. That's why the difference is clearly visible because this new cover has visible bumps above where the chain goes. Yours probably has a 7 mm chain if one of the previous owners did not change it.

And here are all the parts that change when converting from 7 to 8mm chain. The complete job with parts costs easily 1,500 euros.

Service Action
Check of the noise coming from the camshaft drive chain.
Identification of the type of camshaft drive chain fitted to the internal combustion engine.
Replacement of the camshaft drive chain with an 8 mm chain (Modernisation of the internal combustion engine ).
Engine management ECU downloading (if necessary).
