Hello to all, I write here as a last resort. I've read all internet content related to my issue and cannot find a solution...
I just bought a C5 Aircross diesel EAT8 180CV Shine from 2019 (I love that car!!!) and my firmware is 31.08.05.86_NAC-r0.
My Citroen app told me I can update firmware and maps, well. So I installed Citroen Update on windows and it downloaded a huge content to prepare my usb key.
Then it could not format the usb key so, not understanding what the problem was, I had the BAD idea to uninstall and reinstall Citroen Update to restart from the beginning.
From that point...it tells me that there isn't any update for the firmware or the maps!!! And the same tells me the My Citroen app!!! It's like they've set on their backend the version I JUST downloaded on my PC... and I cannot exit from that strange situation!

From there I started my quest searching for info on how to update in other ways and I think I've read every internet content about the NAC.
In particular I've found this post that had my exact same firmware and could update so I tried that way.
These are my trials:
  1. Prepared a 64GB (with a 32GB partition formatted with FAT32) and copied there the latest wave 3 "bridging" update: 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0. The car showed me just the "map_eur" update that failed after some seconds with the message (translated from italian): "The map-eur update was not completed"
  2. So I've tried to remove the map update (the 002315011619637877 folder) to force it to do the firmware update. That way the error was (translated from italian): "Version not compatible with the hardware"
  3. Tried with the previous bridging update: 42.01.72.32_NAC-r0. Same result: "Version not compatible with the hardware"
  4. Tried with the following update of my firmware: 31.09.46.62_NAC-r0. Same result: "Version not compatible with the hardware"
  5. Tried with a wifi connection (tested working) during the update, a bluetooth connection (tested working) even if I have the SOS and Citroen buttons, so from what I've understood I should not need the license. However same result with an active internet connection: "Version not compatible with the hardware" (with every version).
  6. Tried two different USB keys: another 64GB USB 3.1 (formatted with a 32GB FAT32 partition) and a 8GB older usb key (FAT32 formatted). Same results: "Version not compatible with the hardware"
Other info:
  • My main USB key 64GB USB 3.1: I'm sure it works because it was correctly used by my collegue on a Peugeot 3008 wave 2 NAC to update firmware and maps.
  • I don't have a license file and I don't know how to get one as maybe I could have tried with that copying it in the USB key
  • I'm using this link for info about the firmware and download links, maybe it could be useful to other people
So I ended my bullets. I even opened a ticket on the Citroen website. After one day they called me telling that the solution is to bring the car to a Citroen dealer. Ok, nice.

I hope that someone can help me and give me some bullets to try...

Thank you in advance if you've read to this point!

Hi Henrik (energywave).

Having read your post and reviewed your links and other post links, my advice would be to start afresh (again)!
Download the Citroen Update programme from the official Citroen site and install it on a windows PC.
Make sure you are using a decent USB memory stick and allow the Citroen Update programme to format the stick in whatever format it uses..
It's a long winded process but one that works for me every time. This way should alleviate the need for any of the confusing issues you mention you have gone through.
I would forget your app for now and let it catch up with the car in time later. For more complete guidance see my previous post under "C5 Software"

Hi again Henrik. This is the guidance I referred to..

Hi. If you're referring to the screen and maps then firstly I suggest downloading and installing the "Citroen Update" programme from the Citroen website to a Computer.
Once installed on the PC open the programme and you'll be asked to insert your vehicles VIN number.
The programme will show which newest updates are available for your vehicle and the steps to take.
Be aware beforehand that you'll need at least a 32GB memory stick and a fairly good broadband connection.
The programme will firstly download the updates to a temporary folder and tell you when it is ready for the next step. This can take some time so be patient..
Next you will be asked to insert your memory stick and the programme will format the entire thing and then start to copy files across to the formatted stick.
The programme will advise when it's finished and when its safe to remove the stick.

Take the stick to the car and start the engine. Do not turn the engine off until the whole process is finished. Insert the stick into the USB socket and the screen will respond and take you through the rest of the process. It is at this stage (in the car) that you'll be able to choose which maps to install.

I would suggest you update both the screen software and the maps at the same time, one after the other in the same instance.
Again be prepared to sit in the car for a good while.. maybe even an hour!

Thank you so much Kev B for having read my post and for having tried to help.
Unluckily your suggestion doesn't helps.
My problem starts from there, as the official Citroen Update software (the first thing I was trying to do) is now telling me that my car is updated, please see the screenshot:

So I'm unable to download anything from there (options grayed out).

Even My Citroen app tells me that my car has the version 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0:

The problem is that my car has the firmware version 31.08.05.86_NAC-r0!

Hi, I see your problem.. I'm afraid I can't see any other way than to somehow reset things so you can move forward again. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to do this other than by using a Citroen dealership but hopefully someone else on here might? Hope you manage to sort it soon. All the best Kev.

Maybe Juan Sheet can help...? I've read a lot of his helpful posts in other threads where he posts license for specific users (if I remember correctly)... He must have some access to the Stellantis system that we haven't ;) I can send him the VIN in a private message, if he can help me in some ways.
It's so frustrating... I'm a programmer and don't have problems to do techcnical things but I must say that the PSA (now Stellantis) update system is "far from optimal"

Hi Sallyann!
I have the same problem with my C5 aircross -2019, the citroen update app gives me the 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 update, but when inserting the USB to the car it says the update is "Version not compatible with the hardware"
I am currently running the 31.09.46.62_NAC-r0 firmware in the car, i guess the previous owner hasn´t updated it.
Did you guys found any solutions to the problem?
Best regards!
