Hello,

I, yesterday have been told I need a new engine.

My 2018 registered with 64k miles 1.2 c3 had the oil pressure light. I had read the forum, but remained positive. I don't now.

I do have a full service history but my concerns are:

1. Old owner missed a service by 2 days and I have seen how picky they are with this.

2. We took it to our regular garage- where we purchased the car for the last service - at this time blissfully unaware of the issues with the engine. Again- we know how picky they are with this.

We all rely on our cars, and this stress is making me extremely anxious. I do not have 4k plus for a new engine if they refuse to pay. I have no access to another car as my husband's car was sent to scrap 3 weeks ago.

I don't really know where I'm going with this.... I'm just stressed and needed to vent. Just hoping they will pay costs .

By they, I take it you mean Citroen - they will deal with these cases on an individual basis. I don't think the 2 day gap will be a particular issue, as I think they will have a great job in trying to argue that case under any challenge.

It's more likely to be whether the car has been properly serviced according to Citroen's scheduled operations and checks (as in not at an official dealership), which, although you are perfectly entitled to do this, you must be able to show that all the pre-requisite checks - and specifically those operations that pertain to this specific vehicle and engine have been done by any non-franchised garages.

For example the Wet Belt system is particularly vulnerable to breaking up if the incorrect oil is not used, but must be regularly checked at each service regardless for integrity. Servicing is annual, so if an independent garage that you may of used did not make such checks and record this, then they could say that has an official dealership been used for servicing, they would of inspected the belt and picked up any potential issues at each service.

So I do hope you are successful in getting some assistance, but just make sure you have any and all records of servicing (outside of a dealership) to hand.

So let me get this straight, are these issues just generally with the 1.2 pure tech engines?

How do I know what type of belt my Citroen has?

I have a 1.6 blue hdi aircross, feel.

Thanks

You are lucky, your engine does not have these problems.

I am in the same boat with the Aircross 1.2 2018 with just 41K on the milage. Engine needs to be replaced, with no prior warning or indication.
Fully serviced, no oil light - first problem was engine light and car engine stopped.

Citroen Garage suggested timing belt on phone but as mentioned fully service, then suggesting poor servicing (most done are reliable garages and one at the dealership).
I cannot find any directive that the timing belt should be changed after 6 years which is where Citroen are saying.
Citroen tell me this is documented in a separate Scheduled maintenance book (came with car) and Not the Service Log Book which is fully stamped up.
I do not have this Scheduled maintenance book information nor is it in the Service Logbook. Dealership also confirm may not have been supplied with Car.

?Question?
Does anyone have a copy of the Citroen C3 Aircross 1.2 scheduled maintenance booklet showing this 6 year belt change requirement ?
If so would be grateful to get confirmation that 1. This document exists and 2 it contains the information that timing belt must be replaced within 6 years.
I am willing to accept that this may exist and was not supplied when I bought the car, but Citroen suggest I buy it but wont give me a price when I say how much.

Additionally I am being asked to provide all the Invoices from all the services and that they must be TYPED fully nothing handwritten. Some are Pre-printed forms with details filled in.

Current situation they want £6400 to fit a new engine on a 6.5 year old car where it appears there has been a catastrophic engine failure and the servicing has been conducted.

Thanks in advance and guidance.
