yes 7mm chain and you can't upgrade the chain alone - the whole assembly needs replacing.

PLUS: you have a BSI software update overdue! - best get it booked into the dealer - it will be free.
Is the timing chain free under main dealer or do i have to pay for it out of pocket?

On the hunt for a 1.5HDi that may have the updated chain. Could you kindly check this VIN please: VF3MCYHZMMS070055

From what I can gather the feeling here on the forum is any 1.5HDi post 2018 is more likely break due to a different manufacturer used at the time than say a 2017HDi.

The problem I find is now I’m getting consumed my recent purchase will have this problem and as the case is with these forums you only hear of the horror stories. Does anyone know of instances where people have driven this over 100k miles on the original chain without issue?

What year and model was your car? Trying to see if there is a theme where earlier version of the 1.5HDi were more robust

Not free - any dealership intervention will only be carried out if there is a specific issue as discussed in this thread such as noises from the timing area for example. Any repairs will depend on the age of the vehicle, servicing history and mileage and of course after a diagnostic is paid for.

Hello Juan, are 8mm chains now being installed in all new engines.
In post 11 there is an instruction from Stellantis : The upgrades included a beefier 8 mm chain assembly and “new generation” exhaust valves .

In post 1424 you listed the parts for replacement but there are no exhaust valves .
Do the exhaust valves also need to be changed?

There are a few things here to note:

One is a straightforward replacement of the 7mm chain for another 7mm chain - which is what some are doing to err on the safe side. Nothing else needs replacing.

Then there is the official repair once damage has already occurred - that's what the technical document is referring to, which requires replacement of the other components.

Lastly, an upgrade of the chain without damage from 7mm to 8 mm will require the carriers and some other components IIRC.
