Thanks for your help @Ries.
Hi @Juan Sheet, apologies for the daft questions, how would I know if I need the licence file please? I've tried turning on WiFi via the touchscreen but nothing seems to happen. Is it something that is a subscription service? I don't have one as the car is 2nd hand. Many thanks.

Ok so a slight misunderstanding.
If your vehicle has built-in WiFi, it means you have an independent telematic unit that connects to PSA's servers and this is how a firmware update is authorised on these vehicles. If your vehicle does not have this system, you need a licence file for firmware updates installed onto the USB device in order to authorise it.
Note: You do not need a licence file for MAP updates alone! So if installing an independent Map update (not the combined firmware and map versions) then you don't need a licence file.
So there is nothing you need to do concerning wifi settings in your vehicle - that is only for sharing a smart phone Internet connection with the vehicle, which then acts as an access point (wifi hotspot in other words) for your vehicle's passengers. This provides the benefit of passengers using the vehicle's aerial for a better signal and makes it easier for everyone to connect to the same hotspot.
Your vehicle has WiFi, so there should be no need for a licence file.
What is it you're trying to do?

Aha, that makes sense now. Yes my car has WiFi so I've no need for the licence file, thanks for clearing that up. So far I haven't done anything, I'm concerned I might corrupt something if I haven't downloaded everything to the USB correctly. As far as I'm aware I've downloaded and extracted the combined firmware/map update you've kindly provided to a FAT32 formatted USB, so I'll plug it into my car and cross my fingers. Thanks again Juan!
OK so the situation has taken a massive turn for the worse... After 2 failed attempts to update, the screen was stuck on this message: "Software loading on demand, system has limited.functionality"
Following advice earlier in the thread I disconnected the battery and waited 4 minutes before reconnecting. Not only did this not restart the system, but the car won't start. Please please please can you help?

When you disconnect the car battery, you should open the driver window for emergency access, and leave the bonnet open.
Then close all doors and wait for at least 3-4 minutes for the BSI to sleep (opening a door will trigger the network and you'll have to start again.)
Then disconnect the battery and make sure the terminal (preferable negative, but if inaccessible, the positive is fine), does not touch anything else, so isolate it.
Then in your case leave it a good 10 minutes to allow the ECUs to sleep.
Then reconnect the terminal and wait a minute or so before opening the door.
Then, start the vehicle. The immobiliser / electronic steering lock should unlock and you should be able to start the vehicle.
Then you can see if the unit has come back to life. If not, reinsert the USB with firmware update again - but be aware the engine must be running throughout the update and it can take over an hour with firmware and maps!
One other thing, can you put a screenshot up for the contents of the USB folder, so I can check the structure and file content, as I suspect something may not be right there....

Hi Juan, many thanks for your response, after my panic I tried starting the car again around 15 mins later and thankfully it started, albeit with the same message on the screen.
I reformatted the USB and downloaded your link again last thing last night and left it overnight to extract to the USB. I've had to go to work so will not be able to try the update again until tonight. I'll forward you a screenshot when possible.
Many thanks for the instructions regarding the battery, at this point I would rather just have a working system than try and update it again, as the car is due back to the seller on Thursday regarding a separate issue with the Stop/Start system, and I'm concerned they won't work on it without the full system up and running although I doubt the two are related.
Would you recommend your steps with the battery should restore the system? Or should I try the update first as at this point there's nothing to lose?
Your continued help is very much appreciated.

There's nothing you can do until the firmware is properly applied - the Head unit seems to indicate the firmware has failed and left in a partial state.
If it's booked into the dealer, tell them you've attempted the update as per the app and this is how it's been left - they may be able to manually restore it. One thing is certain and that is the PSA update system is totally balked. Flawed updates and flawed systems for delivering them. You are not alone though.
The ironic thing is they have tried to move to OTA (Over The Air) updates to negate the need for owners to manually update their systems and it's no better, with the vehicles getting stuck, loss of comms and leaving units bricked and inoperable, requiring dealer intervention to restore.
I personally can't be doing with it anymore and use my CarPlay mapping apps which are more up to date, more accurate and require no Head Unit intervention. Never looked back.

I bought the car from Fords of Winsford and the Stop/Start should be covered under their warranty but I doubt they'll do anything about the update but I'll ask.
Failing that I'll contact my local Citroen dealer and ask what they can do. I'll try once more to disconnect the battery following your guidance and see what happens.
Yes ironically I use Android Auto for most things, just thought if there was an update pending that it was worth doing!
Thanks Juan

Hi Juan, no joy I'm afraid. Leaving it 15 minutes with the battery disconnected yielded the same result. I've just tried the install again as a shot in the dark and after 30 mins sat in the car it got almost to the end then I got the same message about a corrupt file. As per your request I've attached what I see on the USB drive. (Hopefully) I'm not very computer literate so not sure if I've extracted correctly? I basically opened the downloaded file, plugged in the USB and selected Extract from the options at the top, then let it do its thing. Incidentally I'm using a brand new SanDisk 3.2 64gb which has been formatted to FAT32 via a 3rd party program I downloaded from another website.
Unless I've done something wrong with the download, I'll have to contact Citroen. As you say this is their issue so hopefully they can resolve it.

Ok, so this isn't correct and I can see that the folder PaxHeaders.24136 should not be there. This folder is being created because you have an old version of the 7Zip utility. I suggest you download the latest version from 7zip.org (https://www.7-zip.org/).
You also have some windows system files there - but let's ignore those for the moment.
So once you have installed the latest 7Zip, format the USB again and then use the latest version of 7 zip to extract the files to the USB.
That should solve the issue and hopefully will allow you to install properly this time.
