When opening the bonnet I've noticed black engine oil on the engine side of the radiator towards the top just below the 2 rubber hoses.
I've checked the engine oil from when it was serviced earlier this year & the level is fine at the top. I was wondering if anyone had come across this issue before?? Could it possibly be that the dipstick wasn't fully seated down & a little oil has escaped that way or possibly the engine oil was overfilled??
Any help or advice will gratefully be received.

When you say it "is fine at the top" what do you mean? It should not be filled to the top. Have you checked the oil level using the dipstick on a flat road surface? Only use the dipstick guide to check the level and keep it within the Max level.
Otherwise it could of been a sloppy job when it was last services and they spilled it all over the place in which case I'd have taken it right back and asked to to clean it up properly! I'm assuming you are having it dealer-maintained given the year.

Yes it was a dealer service....what I meant was the dipstick oil level is at the top on level ground so I've not lost much oil.
I took it back to the dealership today. The Service Manager had a look & he said it will need stripping down as the oil is showing near the Intercooler so maybe damaged or possibly a turbo problem?? The thing that I didn't like was when they said it may be that a stone has gone through the gap in the grill & damaged the part in which case the warranty wouldn't cover the repair.....
When I first had the vehicle it seemed very sluggish & when I took it back to the dealership they apparently tested it & just told me it was the way I was driving it as the turbo doesn't kick in until about 18k revs??
I wonder if this could all be related?? Glad that I emailed them at the time of my concerns that I still have as proof..

If you're referring to the Turbo Air Cooler, there should be no oil in there at all. It's function is to cool the air entering the cylinders, which creates denser air and this in turn increases performance.
There may be a leak in the turbo oil return hose or elsewhere that has allowed oil to get in or around that area. They should be able to perform some leak diagnostics whilst there to isolate the source of the leak.

After speaking to the Service Manager basically it looks like there has always been a pin hole in the intercooler.
I asked if there would be any other damage to the turbo etc caused by this. They claim that due to the pin hole it would cause a negative pressure so would have pulled oil through the seals without damaging the seals on the turbo I presume??

I would query this this point, as the Turbocharger should not be passing any oil into the Air pressurised side of the engines air supply at all.
Just hot pressurised air which the Intercooler then cools to then expands the volume of air entering the engine. I can't see why a slightly reduce pressure at the outlet of the turbocharger could cause an oil seal to leak. I suppose its possible, but still worth querying.
Good to know that there was no stone damage to the Intercooler and the repair is fully covered by the warrantee. Hopefully you should also see a slight improvement to the engines performance and fuel economy.
